A Happy Ending

This blog may seem a bit strange to some of you. It's a little less fun than most of our posts. However, it was a big event in our life and Liam's. While he won't remember any of it, I believe it will shape who he is just as it will forever shape my role as a mother.

As many of you know, last week was an interesting one for us. Liam had been throwing up for about the last two weeks, more and more each day until he was only keeping one feeding down a day. We went to Children's Hospital Monday evening and ending up being scheduled for surgery Tuesday morning. Liam had pyloric stenosis. The surgery is relatively common and went very well. Hitch actually had the same surgery when he was 6 weeks old. We were in the hospital until Thursday evening, but he has done great since coming home. He is keeping most everything down now and seems to be feeling much better. Thank you to everyone for positive thoughts and prayers. Spending time in Children's Hospital made me realize how lucky we really are as many families deal with much worse.

The next day. They had just taken off the oxygen and he was quite happy to have it gone.

Just before going home. You can see that, unlike his Dad who has a big scar across his stomach, Liam's surgery was done lapriscopically. They made 2 small incisions on his stomach and went in through his belly button. Amazing.

Carter seemed to know her brother was sick and was concerned about his tummy. However, as you can see below, a 2 year old just can't be too concerned with these things. She managed to have a good time even in a hospital room. She was quite a trooper as well. A special thanks to my parents for helping out with her.

First Bath in a Real Bathtub

A few weeks ago (yep, I'm a little behind!) Liam had his first real bath and it was a whole family activity. Carter was very interested in "helping", Mom did most of the bathing, Dad took pictures and cuddled with a clean baby at the end. Liam didn't cry once, but did look a bit uncertain about the whole process.

Go Rockies!

We are starting Liam's love of sports early. At 3 1/2 weeks old, last night he attended his 4th Rockies game. His first game, he was just 5 days old! So far his record is 3 wins 1 loss. Here's hoping to we get to see some post season games! Go Rockies!

Family

A family of four. Everyone said having two kids was a lot more work than one and they were right. But I have to admit, it's not nearly as bad as I imagined. Of course, neither one of us has spent much time alone with both kids. That might be a different story! Carter loves her new brother and keeping her off of him is one of our more difficult tasks. Liam is a great baby. Quite mellow and a decent sleeper for a 2 1/2 week old.

Carter wants to sit on Mom's lap pretty much anytime Liam is on Mom's lap.

It's A Boy!

Here he is, our newest addition! Liam joined our family a little later than expected (4 days after his due date) and a little bigger than expected (2 pounds more than his sister!). He is a very good baby, quite mellow and a pretty good sleeper. Mom is going well, tired, but that's to be expected. Carter has adjusted quite well to being a big sister and LOVES to kiss and hug her baby brother. Mom has already gained a new appreciation for the second born child. Carter's blog was up and running before she was born and Liam's is up after only two weeks. We also realized that we need to make a concerted effort to take just as many pictures of our little boy. It's a big challenge, but we are up for it :-) Thanks for following our blogs and enjoy!
